We are currently taking orders for fall 2023 and spring 2024.  It is important to reserve your planting needs early.

We are now in maintenance at the nursery which includes fertilizing, watering, weeding, planting cover crops and scouting the beds to watch for anything we have to take care of.  Spring was cold and wet but we managed with the commitment of our staff to get all clients serviced according to their time frame. The wood stoves were welcome as we started the day.  Our 2'+ evergreen transplants still had a strong demand and should produce very good results for the crop of fall 2023 and spring 2024. We are adding new species to our offerings for diversity of planting.  Northern Catalpa is native to the united states.  Catalpa was planted much more in the 1950's because of fence posts, rail road ties, furniture, trim in homes and its resistance to rot.  As a landscape specimen it produces large clusters of trumpet shape white and yellow flowers with a little purple in the interior around age seven.  It has large heart shaped leaves that make a great shade tree.  In the fall it produces a long seed bean. It is a robust tree that adapts to demanding growing conditions. It is used to mediate air pollution.  Grows to 60 feet.  We have added more availability to northern grown red bud, added some serbian spruce and green giant arborvitae.  Descriptions are available under deciduous materials and evergreen transplants. Call  231-723-7000 or email us at hramornursery@outlook.com to check on availability of deciduous and evergreen products. If some of the species or sizes are sold out then call back to  see if we reopened the species and sizes you were looking for or make sure you are on the list for a call back.  After a species is completely harvested and graded we sometimes find that there was more than we expected in the plant beds. The species that we carry can add to your gardens, your landscaping needs, living windbreaks, shelter belts, privacy screens, wood lots, and phytoremediation projects.  We are seeing interest in trying to make an impact on global warming.  We are carrying some deciduous trees and shrubs that will be fast growing and establish themselves as windbreaks and wood lots as well as make an addition to your landscaping needs.  Just think that if each person planted 5 trees or shrubs they would cover their oxygen needs for that year.  We have added two specialty packets to make it easier for people who want to plant just a few pieces but still be part of addressing global warming and adding to the value of their land.  Carbon sequestration can happen when you plant trees that contain carbon with their roots.  No till planting also helps as you don't turn over the soil and, therefore, contain carbon.  We carry a choice of fast growing trees and shrubs like hybrid poplar, hybrid willow, silver maple, norway spruce, ninebark and silky dogwood.  Our premium sizes are sold at a very affordable price for home owners and for companies that do phytoremediation projects or sell in small quantities.  You may consider some of our species for your investments in lumber plantations.  The building trades for homes are in great need of lumber.  Have a great 2023-2024 planting season getting involved in making a difference in how we take care of our planet.

TAKE A LOOK AT OUR FAST GROWING TREES: GREEN GIANT ARBORViTAE,  HYBRID POPLAR, HYBRID WILLOW, NORWAY SPRUCE, AND SILVER MAPLE. These are a great help in sequestrating carbon.  Norway spruce was approved by the American Lumber Standards Committee for home constructions and industrial applications in 2016. This addition to the list of approved species has added to its value for marketing the mature tree since many deciduous trees have become subject  to diseases or insect damage.  Poplars are also used in the building trade because it has less grain than many other woods and can not only be stained but reacts well when painted.  All investments in wood lots have really paid off as wood products are in great demand.  Chose a product to meet the demands of a project that needs to make a quick impact with availability of information and advice to achieve it successfully.
